During one of the Nipponese invasions into Cathay, Tadamune was locked in a duel with the opposing armies general. As Tadamune struck the killing blow the sword was swung with such power that the enemy general was split from his head down to the saddle of his horse, thus the name Saddle-Cutter was born.
