The Bretonnians are a powerful army formed around a core of brave knights supported by scores of lowborn peasants. They are a warlike and valiant people who willingly seek out battle as a way of securing personal honour and pride. Any who invade their domain face the fury of their powerful knights; and few foes can match them on open ground. The knights range from the youngest Knights Errant, eager to prove their worth, through to the Knights of the Realm, defenders of the land. Rarer still are the Questing Knights, wandering warriors engaged in the quest for the Grail, and the legendary Grail Knights themselves, who have succeeded in their quest and sipped from their goddess' Grail, becoming imbued with fey power and longevity. Some knights ride to battle borne upon the backs of noble pegasus, flying high above the army to descend on their foes. When the knights of Bretonnia march to war, their men-at-arms march beside them, as do a levy of peasant bowmen drafted into service. The aim of a Bretonnian army is to ride down the foe, using their knights to crush all who would dare stand before them. The peasants' role is to support the knights by peppering the foe with arrows and to crew the mighty trebuchets. Regiments of men-at-arms march into battle to protect the flanks of their knightly lords, and to lend their weight of numbers to the fight if the knights' charge does not rout the enemy. All the while, the Blessing of the Lady of the Lake protects the knights from harm, surrounding them with a protective, mystical shield that wards off blows and deflects arrows and cannon balls alike. A well-constructed and orchestrated Bretonnian offensive will often smash straight through the foe, allowing the knights to wheel back around for a second, devastating charge.

The sword allows Louen to re-roll failed rolls to Hit. In addition, any enemy models in base contact with Louen at the beginning of any Close Combat phase must take an Initiative test. If this is failed, that model may make no attacks this round and will be hit automatically.

Sword of Couronne

Lance. Each successful Hit with the Lion Lance is multiplied into 2 Hits. The lance can only be used when charging; in other rounds of combat, Louen will use the Sword of Couronne.

Heavy armour. Opponents suffer a -1 penalty to all rolls To Hit the wearer with missile weapons and in close combat.

Armour of Brilliance

Shield. The Lion’s Shield gives Louen a Magic Resistance equal to the total number of dice used in the casting of the enemy spell, to a maximum of 3.

Any enemy spell that targets Louen or the unit he is with and is successfully cast inflicts D3 Strength 4 Hits on the Wizard that cast the spell.

Louen’s Inspiring Presence rule has an extra 6" in range. In addition, all friendly units that may use Louen’s Leadership have Immunity (Panic).

Infantry

Ranks A unit of Infantry is required to be five or more models wide in order to be able to gain rank bonus. Unit Strength Infantry have a Unit Strength of 1. Line of Sight Infantry have a Line of Sight value of 1. Base Size  Infantry have an approved base size of 20x20mm, 25x25mm, 25x50mm, 30x30mm and 40x40mm.

Special Character

The Warhammer Army books each include the rules for several Special Characters within their pages. They are famous, named war leaders and mighty mages, tales of whose legendary (or nefarious) deeds have travelled far and wide, such as the Emperor Karl Franz, Grom the Paunch of Misty Mountain, the infamous Vampire Lord Vlad von Carstein and many more besides. Special Characters are exceptional individuals but, more importantly for our army selection purposes, they are unique – each can be included in an army only once.
